Education for Employment (E4E) is one of Wisconsin's original 20 school district standards. Its purpose is to ensure that all K-12 students, regardless of career objectives, are given the skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed for future employment. Education for Employment (Standard m, PI-26) was updated by the Department of Public Instruction in July of 2004.
School districts in CESA 5 have formed regional councils to meet the requirements of the Education for Employment (Standard m), collaborate on the School-to-Work initiative, and work together to develop work-based opportunities for students. The councils may consist of business and community representatives, people from governmental agencies and educators from local school districts, as well as from higher educational facilities.
Activities of the council include labor market discussions, business and industry tours, and staff development activities that are organized to complement the goals of the regional and local E4E plan.
Participating school districts review and revise the district plan at least once every five years. Goals and activities related to the seven components of the Education for Employment Standard are reviewed by the council annually. The Education for Employment (E4E) standard is a PK-12 Initative focused at preparing elementary and secondary students for employment, to promote cooperation between business and industry and public schools, and to establish a role for public schools in the economic development of Wisconsin. The components are:
- Partnerships and Coordination
- Skills For The Future
- Career Guidance
- School-Supervised Work Experience
- World Economy and Labor Markets
- Contemporary Programs (in Career and Technical Education)
- Accountability
