The Kids on the Block SCHEDULE NOW FOR THE 2009-2010 SCHOOL YEAR
The KIDS ON THE BLOCK are a very special bunch of puppets. They are nearly life-size and they dress and act like real children. Like real children, each one has definite likes and dislikes, hopes, fears, talents and limitations. Like real children, some have cognitive, physical, emotional, or learning disabilities. Together, the KIDS ON THE BLOCK form the core of a unique and exciting educational program to teach kids to accept and appreciate differences among us.
While students who have disabilities are being educated more and more in the general education classrooms, it becomes even more important to develop a welcoming atmosphere which encourages friendships among all children. Both children and adults can learn from the KIDS an attitude of understanding, warmth and sensitivity that will serve them well for the rest of their lives.
The Cooperative Educational Service Agency #5 (CESA 5) KIDS ON THE BLOCK puppet troupe joins a growing network of more than 700 community-based programs in 49 states and 14 countries. The program’s success is dependent on dedicated people who are willing to serve as puppeteers for this worthwhile endeavor.
