SCING is a regional distance learning network currently with nineteen members—seventeen K-12 districts and two technical colleges. As part of the BadgerNet Converged Network system, SCING uses a digital telecommunications system that is vendor managed and scalable. The result is high quality, two-way interactive video services for SCING's 17 K-12 districts, one technical college campus, and one CESA agency. Simply put, it is a means of connecting classrooms with crisp, clear audio and video that provides full motion, real-time, interactivity so that teachers and students, literally separated by hundreds of miles, can interact as if they were physically right in front of each other.
On January 15, 1993, SCING began broadcasting with four members—Adams-Friendship, Pardeeville, Portage, and CESA 5—with the goal of expanding and enriching curriculum. Today, the SCING consortium continues to expand curriculum, enrichment, and staff development opportunities for its growing membership.
SCING utilizes IP MPLS technology, which is cost effective and versatile. With this system, classes or meetings can be held simultaneously and scheduling can be pre-programmed or on demand. Membership into the SCING Network is open to any educational institution.
